About Floor Planning & Elevation Design Projects

Single-storey living is a deliberate choice rather than a limitation, and it changes how a plan is drawn. Without a staircase to organise around, circulation has to be resolved horizontally, and the risk is a plan that becomes a corridor with rooms attached. A central courtyard solves this directly: rooms open onto it instead of onto a passage, so the courtyard becomes both the route through the house and its main source of light and air. Every room gains an outward aspect, and daylight reaches parts of the plan that would otherwise sit deep and dark. Floor planning and elevation design are inseparable in a bungalow because the elevation is low, long and close to eye level from the street — there is no upper floor to carry visual weight, so proportion does all the work. Roof line, the rhythm of openings, the depth of a boundary wall and the height of a plinth are what give a single-storey facade presence. Clean geometric forms depend on precision to read well, with shadow gaps, wall junctions and consistent reveals mattering more than they would on a busier composition. Vastu-compliant planning is straightforward to accommodate when it informs the layout from the outset, guiding kitchen and bedroom orientation, the entrance direction and the treatment of the north-east while the plan is still fluid. A natural stone facade suits this approach, weathering slowly, holding its colour through the seasons and needing little maintenance across the temperature swing between a Panchkula summer and winter.

Designing in Sector 8, Panchkula

Sector 8 sits in the established northern part of Panchkula, close to the older, well-settled sectors where the city's tree cover is mature and the streetscape has had decades to develop. Panchkula follows the same planned grid logic as Chandigarh, with regular plots, generous road widths and sector roads running close to the cardinal directions — which, as in Mohali, means vastu-guided planning and solar orientation generally align rather than pull against each other. Plots in this part of the city are well proportioned, and the surrounding built fabric is largely low-rise, so a single-storey bungalow sits naturally in its context instead of reading as underbuilt. The neighbourhood's maturity is a real design input: established trees on and around a plot affect shading, light and where a building should sit, and existing houses on adjacent plots set a scale and a material language worth responding to. Panchkula's proximity to the Shivalik foothills gives the area a slightly softer climate than the plains further south, though the summer still demands proper shading on west and south-west elevations. Chandigarh, Zirakpur and Mohali are all within a short drive.
